Here is the good old netcast. It's a bit of a bumper one today, and you can read the list proper over at Liberal Conspiracy. As for myself, I'm in another busy work period so blogging will continue to be light, especially as the political landscape is only just starting to hot up again.

Now for the extended list...

Tygerland, and no doubt many others, are quietly laughing and despairing at this interview of Sarah Palin.
Lib Dem Voice and Septicisle, and Unity highlight the latest findings from a complaint submitted by Sunny Hundal regarding Nadine Dorries.
Caron has some views about those wishing to block the safeguarding of children from preventable cancer.
Bob Innes reports, I'm glad to say, on someone in some power actually pushing to free up empty homes for use by people that need them.
Chicken Yoghurt has a short and sharp analysis of the ID card announcement today.
Lib Dem Voice reports that Lib Dem's MPs are the top social networkers online. Give yourselves a pat on the back.
CiF/Simon Fletcher thinks that Brown should be grateful for Boris being in the London job.

Hello again! Haven't I been light on the ground with my blogging? For shame, much as certain other bloggers have said they've been experiencing a weariness in the current political climate I too have to say I am and it's affecting my motivation. Are we really moving forward in this country, is there any chance for a positive future in the next decade, or are we powerless to see authoritarianism take hold at the expense of liberty regardless of who gets in to power? It's all enough to just make someone get a bit fed up.

I will try and dig myself out of the rut though, and as we're starting to move towards another political season I hope there will be more I feel like discussing. On now though to the meat of this posting.

My extended list is as follows...

Your friend in the north defends the BBC license fee...just.
LibCync wonders if being too optimistic can be a bad thing.
Political betting.com states that Vince, Vince, he's our man, and if he can't do it no-one can!
CiF/Tim Footman joins the ranks of people thinking that Tim Berners-Lee is perhaps being a little too precious about how information is disseminated around the web, and just how "useful" such information is.
Decline of the Logos gives a unique account of their experience at the Lib Dem conference.
Kerry McCarthy MP asks who is going to shoulder the blame for the current economic crisis?
Olly's Onions decrypts the real feelings of Nick Clegg by the end of the Lib Dem conference.

Over on Liberal Conspiracy there has been an at times hostile debate surrounding feminism due to the claims of Sarah Palin, Republican VP Nominee, that she is one. Why is this controversial, and why has it started any such debate? Firstly she is someone that believes abortion is a sin, and would appear to wish to ban abortions from taking place in the US if she had her way. This provoked Laurie Penny to claim rather audaciously yet innocently that you cannot be a feminist if you oppose choice (with regards to abortion rights). Needless to say I disagreed, and a lot of cussing and hostile feminist verbatim later the debate hasn't moved on. Why not? Well it's because, as I have perhaps only more recently realised, that the debate is fairly irrelevant to feminism and wholly relevant to liberalism.

Thu 4th Sep 2008

Hey all, sorry about the intermittent blogging. Last week I did my cycling trip from Bristol to Cornwall, and completed 165 miles of travel in two days. It's interesting that on both days I couldn't do much more than 80 miles a day before my body seemingly just refused to go any further! I'm just about recovering from all the aches and pains but thanks to anyone that has given their support either verbally or financially to the justgiving site (see that box in the top right of this site!) for Children in Need.

Right now things are slow news wise, but I'll be trying to pick up some more stories amongst what will be a busy week for me. But on to the roundup, the normal list can be found in the sidebar at Liberal Conspiracy.

Below is the extended list of blogs for today

donpaskini - It is the campaigning and involvement of top level politicians that needs to change right now if Labour want to win.
CiF/Seumas Milne - It's also the need for a true recovery plan and not piecemeal that is needed to save Labour.
Luke Akehurst - And, you know, if Charles Clarke could do more with his time that attack his party leadership that might help Labour also.
Harpymarx - What is it exactly that was so offensive about a woman feeding her child to keep it quiet...on YOUR orders?
CiF/Connor Foley - Conor discusses the real impact of an energy generation project in Afghanistan and the political capital invested in it.
Conor's Commentary - Conor stands up in support of national testing in schools.

Thu 21st Aug 2008

So my casting the net is now up on Liberal Conspiracy, and all in all the quality of stuff out there was much better today than in some recent weeks. You can read my extended link below, and by hitting the "continue reading" link you can see the list I published over there.

As you can see I've been a bit sparse with my postings, as I said work is a bit busier and so time to research and post this stuff has been limited by longer hours! Next week I am actually on a bit of a break so hope to have some things up, but at the same time I'm on a bike ride from Bristol to Cornwall so will be absent for part of it also. If you feel like donating money to Children in Need then I'd appreciate you doing it here.

And for the extended list, look here!

Liberal Polemic - Tom thinks the minimum wage is a heap of steaming...
SSENCH - A quite brilliant parody of the Gary Glitter situation.
CiF/Erik Jones - More on the potential breaking up of Belgium as all political sides seem unwilling to bring the countries factions back together.
Political Betting - With an interesting flashback, PBC compares Brown's situation to Thatcher in 1990.
Jock's Place - Jock has a well written piece about the situation of airports in this country following BAA being "suggested" to sell some.
Norfolk Blogger - Norfolk thinks that Brown is being subtly assassinated by the BBC, he's spot on about Comical Ali though.
Rob Shorrock - Rob wonders just how energy efficient British Gas are being in their energy efficient light bulb distribution.
Lynne Featherstone - Lynne wants your help to guide Lib Dem policy, do it and maybe we can have less support for things like the awful equality bill from the gold party.

Thu 14th Aug 2008

Howdy all. Right now I'm digging the weather, it's sunny yet tempestuous on the horizon. I've tried to rely on weather reports for about a month now and quite literally 90% of the time they've been wrong enough for me to curse them. my casting the net is up at Liberal Conspiracy though, this is something you can predict! As for the other things I'll be writing about? Well I have enough stuff to write about something every day until next week...but will I have the time? I don't want to promise what I can't deliver, but stay tuned!

Now for the extended list, enjoy!

Norfolk Blogger - Prince Charles is a pompous buffon. Oh, and I *will* be arguing the merits of GM food soon, even if Norfolk doesn't wish to yet.
Schneider Home - James doesn't like Obama, and with figures like this it's hard to blame him.
Janestheone - Jane reposts an article about MPs and their tech savvy-ness. Where's Lynne on the list though?
CiF - Apparently Sunderland is the dogs.
Olly's Onions - Beautiful, sensuous waste land....otherwise known as Bradford?

Thu 7th Aug 2008

As usual my list is over at Liberal Conspiracy of the days best articles from the liberal-left. I'm not sure what I've got lined up this week, I'll be continuing to try and talk about relevant things every day but with the recess I may have to delve in to some shelved issues saved for a rainy day. This month is a big social month for me so no guarantees on anything I'm afraid!

So here is the extended list!

Norfolk Blogger - ITV is shit, they spend a load of money on getting their "brand" right, but the best they can come up with is Gossip Girl?
Liberal England - Obviously with politicians failing to make idiots out of themselves this time of year, it's time to roll out the missing children, or kids bitten by evil nazi dogs.
Cobden's Comments - Cobden manages to find a shred of integrity in the persona of George W Bush.
Political Betting - A year ago we couldn't get enough of Brown, will the media learn their lesson? Will any of us?
Dib Lemming - Steph want's YOU....to choose what she write's about.
Lynne Featherstone - Lynne talks through (briefly) some experiences with those trying to get back in to work.

Wed 6th Aug 2008

Liberal Conspiracy is helping Compass to spearhead a call for a windfall tax on energy companies. Apparently they are making far too much money and we want a piece of that pie. The article itself says...

Yet despite the billions made in profits, the energy industry spends just £50 million a year combating fuel poverty and has only agreed to raise this to £150 million a year by 2010. But every 10% increase in energy prices mean an extra 400,000 people go into fuel poverty.

I'm afraid that "we" don't all agree with this kind of thinking and feel very cautious about a windfall tax.

I've said it before, we don't need quick fixes we need absolute change in the strategy for trading energy.

Thu 31st Jul 2008

So this is the second one this week, lucky me and lucky you! I'll keep this brief, here are some cool stories of the day...much better than the fare available on Tuesday!

Political Betting - The death of the labour party? Surely not!
Question That - Ian states the obvious with regards to the hypocrisy of the Labour party, and his suggestion for Tory campaign slogan is spot on.
Lieral Burblings - Paul is right, Cameron has certainly managed to be the first politician to talk any common sense with regards to alcohol.
Obsolete - On the subject of recent rulings on BAE, why should we be taking it as given that anything like this level of corruption is acceptable?
ePolitix - Even the rats seem to be jumping ship now...
Mars Hill - Cameron is in the middle of his PR holiday, bet he can't wait to get away from the riff raff. Remember, Cornish economy is only worthwhile when the sun is shining.
Lib Dem Voice - What do Lib Dem PPC's believe makes them special, huh?

Tue 29th Jul 2008

Hello! Welcome to the blog once more and I hope you're enjoying reading. Just below you're going to be able to click to continue reading and see the netcast as I've published over at Liberal Conspiracy, but first of all Ill be posting my alternative/extended list. I apologise for not putting up my Thursday one, but...well...the blogosphere was just a bit shit so there was nothing that stood out for me. Also, aside from another netcast on Thursday, you will see some articles in the next week (assuming I'm not too busy with work...phew!) about Max Mosley, our train system and annual checks for doctors.

So, on to the extended list!

Amnesty NI - Was King William III of Orange in the closet?
The bleeding heart show - Neil gives his thoughts on the future of Labour (again).
Obsolete - Yet another voice that explains why Brown's time is up.
donpaskini - A compelling look at absolutely rubbish excuses or arguments for the future of Labour.

So what the hell is going on, Labour are slumping in the polls and yet those most naturally in their shadow able to take their place (the Lib Dems) are failing to capitalise in the polls. And even though the Tories are enjoying high times so much they must think it's the 80's all over again (in more ways than one) they have failed to deliver one serious or credible attack against the government that would show them to be the true heir's to the throne. So to speak. Anyway, on with this weeks Politalks. NSFW as usual, transcript can be found if you go through to read more!
