Thanks to Jock Coats for the heads up about this, it turns out a Libertarian, Tory councillor has had his words mangled by a national paper. He has responded since and I think it's only too important to encourage people to support him in this case.

The interesting thing is that he references the MAMAA in his first article, and in his response to the Mirror he gets one of them on his blog to churn out the usual bollocks.

Our young people need ccommitment from us all that it is never acceptable to carry any weapon on the street...I am sorry if by trying to make this country safer for ALL our children i forced you into calling me names when you do not even know me

In the news item on the MAMAA site she is quoted as saying...

He is an idiot. Children are killing children at the rate of one a week and he is suggesting swishing knives around. The man is brainless.

It seems as though the MAMAA mantra is simply to...well...ban knives. Apparently their precious kiddies wouldn't be doing such nasty things and puncturing others if knives weren't available. I wonder if Lyn Costello makes her offspring (assuming she has any) eat only with plastic sporks?

I absolutely detest people like Lyn who believe that it is only the weapons that do harm, as does the Tory councillor in question it seems. It's an attitude that can be sickeningly extended to logically assume it's best for everyone to have their hands chopped off and ankles shackled together...at least that way no violence can happen, right?

And all of this is without even mentioning how stupid MAMAA is as a concept. mothers against murder and aggression? Is there a "mothers for murder" group? I really hate that any of these sort of groups get any sort of air time with those stupid enough to listen to their ridiculous knee-jerk reactionism, born by a fervent disaffiliation with reality. It just reminds me of one of these moronic masses on Channel 4 news, when presented with crime figures (particularly knife crime) having gone down, still claimed knife crime was on the rise because "why else would we be reading it in the papers?"

Some people just make me weep inside.
