Can I just say... HALLELUJAH! If there is a god then they have obviously heard our collective prayers because today's PMQs was far beyond head and shoulders above the rest of the recent events

The reason for this seems to be partly down to a slight reduction in the heckling, but in reality I believe it to be because of as much as half the amount of planted Labour questions, real issues being discussed, and perhaps through a lack of pressure a Prime Minister that actually answered questions better without the constant need to attack "the party opposite"

Cameron's sparring with Brown was less on the level of a cat fight and more on the level of two people clearly interested in an issue trying to get across to each other their stance. Barely any goading, any jeering, and most stunningly articulate and complete answers in every section with no finger pointing or reversals of questions. I had to pinch myself to see whether or not I was actually awake or if it was indeed real!

Clegg actually came off worse by contrast, with a lot of passion and anger but seemed to waste his second question. It is interesting that he managed to attack both of his opposition parties with his questions but it ran contrary to what felt like a more civilised and respectable session.

This isn't to say that it was perfect and pure, a set of planted questions felt even more out of place than usual, even if there were less of them, and Brown still dipped in to his reiteration of past figures when he didn't want to answer questions about the future. However I will happily take this when it happens so infrequently and when it isn't coupled with finger pointing and weak accusations at other members of the house.

The highlight's of the session were most definitely Cameron and Brown engaging over Darfur, as well as the opening of the debate over free votes in the house that left the debate wide open. Boris Johnson caused the biggest cheers as he accused Brown of misrepresentation again however was left with his tail between his legs when the PM had a quote ready to cut him down to size, and quaint questions about why army ration beef is sourced from Argentina rather than the UK as well as about aid levels to foreign countries made the session further feel like the smaller yet just as important issues got air time.

But if I was to suggest something to Brown to improve what was a massive improvement, that made him the stand out leader for the first time since he got the job, it would be to drop the vile argument he uses in response to questions about people on welfare. It is simply not acceptable in my eyes to answer a question about why £10mil of council tenants money is spent on resources and housing not relevant to them by stating, and I of course paraphrase, "We have delivered the finances to let so many of them even live in good accomodation, they should be bloody thanking us".
