Unfortunately the bill I have previously asked people to support didn't get a simple hearing on Friday as the timings involved meant that the debate has been delayed. This isn't a bad thing of course, it just means a bit of a wait for the verdict from the MPs interested, the debate continues on the 14th (this coming Friday). So, of course, I urge people to continue to support this trial especially given that we can see from Hansard just how a minority of people seem to be opposed to any positive move for utterly petty reasoning.

Firstly some wonder why he is bringing the same bill that didn't make it through the commons last year (due to lack of time, not due to a vote) back without any changes, specifically a member of the SNP. The reason given is that Tim Yeo doesn't believe his bill at this stage should be picked apart on such a level and that he hopes for the bill to get to committee stage where that sort of issue can be discussed in much greater depth. It has to be said that Mr Yeo is most certainly not against the committee deciding that devolved governments need to have the autonomy to decide their own time zones.

In fact the debate generally favoured the bill with information used such as £200million saving for the NHS, £1-2 billion increase due to tourism, at least 100 fewer deaths on the road each year let alone injuries prevented, as well as the obvious leisure and energy/environmental benefits such a change would bring. Some tried to suggest that road deaths could be avoided largely by schools changing their hours of education, but Mr Yeo rightly ensured the house understood that while such a change is possible it doesn't bring about the other benefits above.

Now about those petty people, personified by Kate Hoey in Fridays debate...

I oppose the Bill. I am trying to remember when we last tried the experiment. I know that I was a lot younger then, but I cannot remember exactly when it was. In those days, exactly the same words were said by those who wanted the experiment. They said that it would really make a difference to people's quality of life and enjoyment. The reality was, as the promoter of the Bill knows, that it was not a marvellous change to people's lives and it did not bring about a huge change in people's quality of life. Indeed, a number of young children died in accidents during the morning, when people are not so awake or alert and are in more of a rush to get to work or school. Actually, the number of accidents rose.

Firstly, Who is Kate Hoey to tell me or anyone that she will oppose a bill putting such a scheme to trial because she doesn't believe we'll take quality of life benefits from it? Secondly I think the height of picky pettiness is reached when you start trying to argue against saving more lives because of a slight increase in deaths in the morning hours. Does she really think she makes any sense arguing for more deaths in general to save the lives of people in the morning? Is the morning such a horrible time to die that it outweighs dying in the evening so greatly?

Shame on your Kate Hoey, all your good work in representing your constituency and the people in the EU treaty bill has very swiftly been undone by your idiocy on Friday.
