Support the energy saving (daylight) bill!
Thu 6th Mar 2008 – (2 Comments)
On Friday (7th March) comes a very important and exciting bill that I have previously blogged about in some detail, the "Energy Saving (Daylight) bill" that would see us permanently operate on Central European Time rather than GMT for a three year trial.
Ok so maybe exciting is the wrong word to use, but it is a very positive and visual change to make on many levels. For business we would be working on the same clock as our associates in most of the EU, just as many in the city have been doing to keep up for years now. For the dying breed of children walking or cycling to school and back we would have the real possibility of reducing the number of them killed because of driving in poor light conditions. And for those of us that simply enjoy the little time we have outside our strenuous working week we'd also be able to do more of that during the daylight.
I currently write to my MP far too much, but regret that I haven't yet urged him to attend this second reading if he is able and to vote for the bill. While time is now short I would ask anyone that cares about business, about safety and now also about the environment and energy prcies to do what they can to support this bill also so that we can physically see whether or not such a small change can make a significant difference to the country.

That study, which I don't believe is linked correctly I had to search for it myself, is fairly irrelevant to our situation in the UK. We don't use air conditioning to keep ourselves cool and we're not nearly as close to the equator as Indiana in the US where that study was made.

So what the hell is going on, Labour are slumping in the polls and yet those most naturally in their shadow able to take their place (the Lib Dems) are failing to capitalise in the polls. And even though the Tories are enjoying high times so much they must think it's the 80's all over again (in more ways than one) they have failed to deliver one serious or credible attack against the government that would show them to be the true heir's to the throne. So to speak. Anyway, on with this weeks Politalks. NSFW as usual, transcript can be found if you go through to read more!

The trouble is that 'Daylight savings' costs energy and so isn't the sort of thing we should be doing at the moment.:
