Jacqui Smith is the most dangerous type of moron in the government, in so much that she's not really a moron really, she just makes sure she makes moronic statements that a 4 year old could see through as being more false than the results of a positive pregnancy test derived from male urine. Today she adds to her previous idiotic statements that attempt to veil her poorly thought out implementations such as parliament supposedly having any power to stop someone from being incarcerated for a full 42 days, and trying to falsely insinuate that more under 13's drinking any alcohol than ever before actually means an increase in a problem. This time it's the unfortunate and ill thought out "Sarah's Law" that yet another grieving relative with far too much media impact is providing too much weight to.

If there were any sex offences recorded against the individual in whom they are declaring an interest, there would be a presumption that they would be disclosed to that person. It is not a community-wide disclosure. It is not something that some have feared would drive sex offenders underground.

What a fucking moron. Because of course some guy that has his name on the sex offenders register despite being "clean" now can be checked by scared single parent number 1, and she when finding out about his past won't at all go a) to the local paper to sell her story of her near death experience, b) phone up all her neighbours and friends to warn them or c) fly in to a irrational fear that ends up with her doing something she'll regret.

The policy always only ever pandered to the Daily Mail readership in that supposedly they'd be safer knowing if or not there is a paedophile in their neighbourhood, and has only actually managed to achieve an uncovering of the fact that there are too many parents in the UK that clearly bring up their children in an irresponsible way that allows them to become victims of child sex offenders since the only way of them being able to stop such horrible things from happening is to actually know the backgrounds and personal information of everyone in their street.

I really can't stress enough how bloody ridiculous this idea is, with most child molestation being the product of a relative or close friend, and strangers that are really "evil" presumably not being stupid enough to prey on children in their own area. But add on to this the apparent ignorance of a Home Secretary that this knee-jerk nation will act responsibly with any information that they attain and you all round have the most bizarre and stupid solution to an issue created in modern times.
