You'd think that a government passing an Age Discrimination bill for employers would understand that everyone should be treated without their age in mind, yet some in Parliament have commended the use of "Mosquitos" to disperse youths from areas by sending out a high pitched sound that only those under the age of 25 can hear.

I don't generally disagree with the idea that groups of people that are actively intimidating should be allowed to continue doing so, but is this really the best way? A big siren essentially annoys people until they move away. Where do they move to? It's one of the worst cases of NIMBYism I can see because it in no way even pretends to address the causes of the problem in hand, only move it away from "my shop front/park/estate." It is all about giving someone else the problem to deal with because you want an easy life.

And it is the age discrimination that is worst of all, I would be very interested to hear of a case where youths campaign against these noises by playing their own music or recorded whine for everyone to hear in proximity to these devices. I really don't see how anyone can argue for one second that the kids don't have a right to annoy those around them if they are having an age specific noise inflicted on them

Oh, but then they'd be a public nuisance and you'd call the police? Weren't they before, hence being the reason you installed such a discriminatory piece of technology...why didn't you call the police in the first place? Here we see the very beginning of the roots of the problem. Communities being forced to find their own solutions because police don't patrol at less safe times of the night in areas that obviously desperately need the attention.

But even if the police were doing so in some area's, where do they move them on to? The kids have every right to be on the street as anyone else as long as they're not causing a problem, and let us not forget just because you as a middle class worry wart feel intimidated when anyone with a hood glances your way doesn't mean there is intent involved in that act of terror, and shifting them around and treating them as if they're not wanted cannot be the best way to endear them in to the idea of cohesive communities.

Like with the alcohol issue before it, the government would seem to be taking a stand against children's freedom for now while offering no alternative activities for kids to do and no funding to allow others to do it for them. So is it really any surprised that from all of this our nations children may have taken the bane of their social life and turned it on the administration?
