Is this the real reason why Nick Clegg has turned his party towards supporting the Government? The report suggests that the day before the Lib Dem's changed their stance, Gordon Brown stated that Proportional Representation might be on the table after the next election. The story goes that Jack Straw is keen to introduce PR (in particular the AV+ system proposed by the Jenkins Report to Blair in 1999) and the view from some is that a deal has been reached between the two parties.
It is an interesting theory that is somewhat hard to believe is just coincidence. Would the Lib Dem's be justified in giving support to the Government where their impact will be minimal in return not only for a potential share of the power but also moves to actually give them more power in the future? It could be the deal with the devil, and I would never say that you could trust politicians that far in to the future, but it is an interesting concept.
As for the system proposed, it's not quite what I would like but it would go a long way to redress the imbalance between popular vote and the actual seats won. Watch this space I guess...

So what the hell is going on, Labour are slumping in the polls and yet those most naturally in their shadow able to take their place (the Lib Dems) are failing to capitalise in the polls. And even though the Tories are enjoying high times so much they must think it's the 80's all over again (in more ways than one) they have failed to deliver one serious or credible attack against the government that would show them to be the true heir's to the throne.
