I felt, watching this weeks PMQ's, like I was in the twilight zone. Indeed I think that anyone that had come in to the chamber late may have thought they had travelled a week back in time as the subject was once again Northern rock, the prose? Tories accusing Labour of selling out the tax payer, Labour accusing Tories of flip flopping. All in all it was almost painful to see Cameron and Brown duke it out over the same issue, it is almost as if David Cameron is desperate to win over Brown on this subject and will keep coming at him until he does. Unfortunately for him Brown is on usual form, though I wouldn't say "good" form, and ultimately ends up frustrating us all.

The answers, it seems, to Cameron's questions about how much money we might lose, how long it will take to get back, and how the Prime Minister thought it would look taking a trip with Richard Branson are ones that are too good for the rest of parliament and the public at large. I'm increasingly going from disbelief about this tactic of Brown during PMQ's to anger that he feels he can disrespect the general public in this manner.

That's not to say that his showing up of the Tories as "flip floppers" isn't entertaining enough, but this week he definitely lost ground to Cameron's multiple jibes. "He's gone [...] to Del Boy", "He's like a used car salesman", "Administration is what his party is in now and Liquidation is what will happen to his party at the next election" and, finally the doozy, "This is a sub-prime deal from a sub-prime minister." All in all the wit, pre-rehearsed or otherwise, of Cameron completely outshone Brown who could do little more than repeat his attacks on the Tories from last week. It is evident that whenever the Prime Minister finds a shred of success in his blundering tactics at PMQ's he will stick with it for as long as possible rather than keep on his toes.

And it was Nick Clegg who was the loser this week. His statement about the referendum on the EU yesterday had meant he had a rough time shouting over the heckles in the chamber, he picked the same subject to attack Brown on as Cameron, and the best he could manage was to accuse Labour of running scared from the Tories. All in all a little wet and almost certainly he only has himself to blame for the tepid response to his charges from anyone but the Tories. It would seem the game of coalition is just beginning.

But thankfully for the Lib Dem's the focus of poor form has to be on the Prime Minister. Constantly repeating economic successes, planting questions that allow him to repeat economic successes, and not answering questions while repeating economic successes is going beyond wearing thin, even with the added twist of himself, and his party, resorting to finger pointing across the house at "that party" with what I suppose is meant to be indignation but ultimately strikes as petulance.

Cameron was clearly the winner this week, though he desperately needs to find another subject from now on, and Clegg slumped in the face of his own baffling announcement. But Brown is back to usual form, that being of a trudging human shaped record player that plays broken media and is reluctant to go get repaired...drastic change is needed for this man.
