Today (Friday) ended what will probably, or hopefully, be the biggest thing to happen on the politics of food since Jamies School Dinners finished airing the first time around. This time he wasn't the sole orchestrator but once again had his hands in, literally at times, making this issue of food quality apparent for all to see. Jamie's Fowl Dinners aired for an hour and a half and focused completely on the lives of chicken for both meat and egg production. Most of us watching had no doubt seen all the facts before about meat production but to add the facts about egg production was enlightening and essential to round off the picture about welfare of chicken in this country. Channel 4 also, surreptitiously, managed to kick start the next half of their "food fight" season with a short documentary that was, perhaps unintentionally, hilariously covering the lifestyles of "raw" diet eaters.

Yesterday came the remarkable story of two twins, separated at birth for adoption, yet somehow managed to find each other to fall in love and get married. It would be an amazing tale if not for the fact they are genetically related and living in an age where "incest" is a taboo and illegal regardless of the context. With a court annulling their marriage there is no word (rightfully) on what the two have gone on to do, whether they have been shamed through the existence of the taboo, whether they have been able to overcome the past and forge a new sibling relationship or if indeed they still undertake in their love for one another in a less obvious manner.

The issue takes pace, however when political discussions start to take place that could have a major effect the adoption and reproductive services of this country. Lord Alton, an independent lord, had the following to say...

A quick update on my previous blog post about the voting systems in the UK. I stated at the time that my personal preference is leaning towards compulsory voting in the UK along with a single-tranferable-vote system for electing our party in power while MP's with fairer boundries are voted for in the traditional manner but on local issues at a local level given that is their purpose in representation. I also mused, though perhaps not for long or too visibly, about whether any party would start to talk about any of the reforms necessary. At the very least in my mind there was a need for mass redressing off our constituencies to alleviate some obvious unfairness in popular percentage compared to power in house.

Now it turns out that the Tories are the first to really start talking about this properly with a view to campaigning for change.

Further update! It turns out Labour are too playing the game of considering reform. I have stated before that Labour could clearly benefit from lowering the voting age and given how close everything looks right now it might be that they've just considered it.
