I don't want this place to become a haven for lambasting the BBC's poor quality of news reporting, but sometimes I'm just in one of those moods. In fact I'm not sure if the quality is necessarily that bad all told but my yearly head-cold is making me distinctly grouchy

First up in this potential repeat series is local news for me about Bristol's waste problem. Apparently it is getting worse, though no studies have been cited whatsoever as of course with the BBC biased sources of information are perfectly acceptable. What gets me though is that there is no reporting whatsoever into Bristol City Council's inability to deal with the waste problem. On the nights I go out I usually end up sharing a pizza from Pizza Palace, a pizza takeaway holding up the end of a row of about 4 or 5 takeaways, across the road from at least three officially council licensed fast food vendors that seemingly have no obligation to bring waste management solutions along with their trailers. The council is happy to pick up their rent but not the responsibility for picking up the rubbish they haven't made provisions for it seems.

It absolutely infuriates me the amount of waste that we do generate, but for Bristol City Council to act all holier than thou and to announce a toughening of fine laws. Shouldn't they perhaps be first looking at the fact that waste bins ARE being used up and down the city centre, and are actually full to the brim by 1am. There seem to be no interim collections to allow people that *wish* to deposit their waste, probably due to health and safety implications, and I often find myself with a box or a wrapper that I have no-where to put. Given that taxi drivers, the only viable source of transportation around most of Bristol after midnight, are savvy enough to realise that people bringing food and litter in their vehicles will probably inadvertently or otherwise leave a portion of one or both of them behind and not accept fares from people holding fast food in general.

OK, so maybe this isn't so much about the BBC reporting, but look...it took me half a minute of free thought (while my mind wandered on the below Bali post) to come up with some counter points to the stance being taken by the council, and last I knew Points West was a news service for the local area and not a propaganda vehicle for the local government.
